Second Grade Guidance Lesson

I have had so much fun this month in the second grade classrooms with our guidance lesson! The students begin by complimenting their neighbors, and we discuss which compliments are based on a classmates inside and which refer to their outside. We are reading aloud Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon, as we discover the most important thing about her- and each of us- is what is on the INSIDE! Students end the lesson by brainstorming what they feel makes them special on the inside, and are writing them on a special sunny snowflake :).

Ask your child what they wrote on their own unique snowflake to see the positive traits they view in themselves! I have been so happy to see that the students are reflecting on their unique traits that make them so special:).

Third Grade Guidance Lesson

Our third grade guidance this month has a new focus of how to handle a bully, and take a look at two paths we can choose to take! We are reading aloud The Juice Box Bully and focusing on how the characters in the story act and respond to one another, even in the hard situations. We have also been noticing the similarities between a promise in the story to their class's social contracts, of treating one another with kindness and respect! At the end of the story, we discuss the two types of characters in the story and do a reflection activity where students choose which they would prefer to be! The activiy involved seeing the effects we have on others when we say mean things to them or hurt their feelings.

Ask your child about the paper activity that we did with our partners!
