Reading and Thinking Like Historians

Content area literacy has become a hot topic in education as we work to prepare our students for life after high school.  Our students will be required to read and analyze a variety of texts and to communicate their ideas clearly and persuasively.  It is essential that teachers across the academic spectrum have the tools they need to effectively integrate literacy instruction into their classroom.

The ability to read historical documents and contemporary texts is important in preparing students for citizenship responsibilities and to better explain the political, social, and economic trends of today. The ability to read scientific text requires knowledge of a variety of scientific genres, as well as the ability to comprehend a variety of text structures.

DeSoto County Schools is dedicated to providing teachers with the training and support that they need to create engaged and proficient readers in these areas.  Please follow the link to Social Studies below for more information and if you need any more information, please feel free to contact me.
