The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) developed family guides to assist with grade-level at home strategies and activities that support both student and parent understanding of the English language arts and mathematics standards. Mississippi Literacy Based Promotion Act
The 2013 legislative session the Literacy Based Promotion Act, the primary goal is to create proficient readers by the third grade. This law requires all third graders to pass the Mississippi or they will not be promoted to the fourth grade unless the student meets the good cause exemption criteria.
