Ex-Charger Earns all SEC Honors back button

A former Southaven Charger now playing for the Ole Miss baseball Rebels has earned second-team all-SEC honors in a post-season vote announced Monday.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Wyatt Short was voted to the honor team by the league's head coaches.

Short has been a shutdown reliever for the Rebels this spring. In 21 appearances, Short has a 4-1 record, 10 saves, an impressive 1.49 ERA, 41 strikeouts, only 12 walks and just six earned runs over 36 1/3 innings. His win total and number of saves are team highs out of Rebel relievers as he had held opposing hitters to a .206 average at the plate.

Out of his 10 saves throughout the 2015 campaign, eight of them have occurred in SEC play, which is a conference best.

Short was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week for collecting a pair of saves and a victory in the Rebels' sweep of Mississippi State the weekend of May 7-9.

While at Southaven High School, Short was a five-year letterwinner, hitting .416 with 47 RBI's, 15 doubles and a pair of triples as a senior.

On the mound, Short posted a 9-2 record with a 1.20 ERA to go along with 102 strikeouts and 22 walks through 70 innings pitched

Short was named a second team All-State selection in 2012.

Ole Miss opens SEC post-season tournament play this morning against Alabama in Hoover, Ala., starting at 9:30 a.m.
