The 2011-2012 school year is Mrs. Davis’ first year serving the district as ELL supervisor.  Prior to this, she gained five years experience working as an ELL teacher.  Mrs. Davis has also taught in first and second grade classrooms, as well as pre-kindergarten.

Mrs. Davis’ goals are to ensure that Limited English Proficient students grow academically as well as socially and that schools develop positive strategies for teaching LEP students.

The English Language Learner Program for DeSoto County Schools is a "pull-out" program.  The ELL Teacher will work with each student a minimum of one session per week and a maximum of two.  The sessions may be one-on-one or a group session depending upon scheduling and needs.  This means the majority of the ELL student's time is spent with his regular classroom teacher.

The success of the ELL student will be a group effort.  It will take instruction and accommodations of the regular classroom teacher and the ELL teacher.  It will take the involvement and support of the parents.  Ultimately, it will take the efforts and positive attitude of the ELL student.
