Definition of Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment is a program that allows high school students to earn college credit toward a postsecondary diploma while enrolled in high school.
Dual Enrollment Eligibility

High school students may attend Northwest simultaneously provided all of the following requirements are met:
  • Must have completed a minimum of fourteen (14) core high school units.
  • Must have a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, or better, on all high school courses as documented by an official high school transcript.
  • Must have a composite score of twenty-one (21) or better on the ACT.
  • Must have an unconditional written recommendation from their high school principal and/or guidance counselor. A home-schooled student must submit a parent, legal guardian, or custodian’s written recommendation to meet the requirement of this paragraph.
  • Students may be considered for the dual enrollment program who have not completed the minimum of fourteen (14) core high school units if they have a minimum ACT composite score of thirty (30) or the equivalent SAT scores, and have the required grade point average and recommendations prescribed above.

Exercising Option to Participate in Dual Enrollment

The student must:
  • Meet eligibility requirements defined above.
  • Complete a Northwest application for admission.
  • Submit to Northwest Admissions Office an unconditional written recommendation from High School Principal and/or Guidance Counselor.
  • Provide official high school transcript to Northwest indicating grades through the last semester of attendance.

Registration:
Students may register during open registration in the spring or fall of each semester. Students may enroll in a traditional class setting or through an online class.
