FAFSA Information:
FAFSA Tips (Free Application For Federal Student Aid)
*Apply in January of the student's Senior Year
1. What is the FAFSA? It is the form you as a parent fill out for your student which allows them the possibility of receiving any type of Federal Aid for College including grants, loans, some scholarships. It is a must for ALL students!!!
2. Where can I find out more specific information? You can find out anything you need to know at the website www.fafsa.ed.gov. It gives you a step-by-step process with all you need to do.
3. What is a pin number? It is a number you get from the FAFSA people that is assigned to your student. You will need it before you start filling out the FAFSA form and you will use it each year your student applies to universities or colleges. It never changes. You get your pin number from the website www.pin.ed.gov .
4. What will I need to fill out the FAFSA form? You will need your previous year's tax return. For example, if your student is going to college in August of 2011, then you will need your 2010 tax forms.
5. Can I only fill out the FAFSA on-line or is there a paper copy I can mail in? Starting in 2008 the FAFSA can only be filled out on-line.
6. I don't think my student will qualify for federal aid or loans, do I need to fill out the FAFSA? YES!!! Some universities will not award scholarships to students who have not filled out a FAFSA.
7. Is there a form to help me get started? Yes!! Please see the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.
