 Mission Statement:

The purpose of Student Council shall be to provide leadership and service opportunities to students, serve as examples to the student body, serve the students and staff of HLHS effectively, serve Horn Lake and the surrounding communities abundantly, hold school elections, promote school spirit,  raise funds necessary for projects and expenses of Student Council, and serve as a liasion between the students and the administration. Our primary focus is service!

The Student Council shall consist of one President, one Vice-President, one Secretary/Treasurer, and representatives from each graduating class.

**Below you will find a list of events currently scheduled that the Student Council will be actively involved in. Please feel free to contact us if you have any suggestions on community events that would be beneficial or provide us with any information on activities that would provide a great learning experience for us! The members are required to complete 20 hours of community service this school year.

September 2011

• Sept. 5-9~Homecoming at Horn Lake High School!!
• Sept. 10th~Service Visit to Landmark of Desoto in honor of Grandparent's Day (10am-2pm)
• Sept. 21st~Fundraiser night at Texas Roadhouse...please come out to support the council/we will receive 10% of the orders dine-on or carry out! (5pm-9pm)
• Fundraiser Project for the month: Eagle Spirit Raffle
• Good Deed of the month: Tutoring Tuesday  (student council will begin tutoring other students from 7:00-7:18 each Tuesday morning in the library beginning 9-27-11).

October 2011

• Oct. 1~5K for St. Jude at Delta Technical College @ 8:30am
• Oct. 23rd~ 5K for Habitat for Humanity at Snowden Grove @ 2pm
•  Fundraiser Project for the month: Boo Bags for Halloween
• Good deed of the month: Goody Bags for Football Team!
• Student Council's Teacher of the Month sponsored by Texas Roadhouse is Mr. Satcher...congrats!!

  November 2011

• November (open date)~Good deed of the month: Food Drive Campaign~collecting non-perishable food items for the local food bank to help those in need have a better holiday! :)

December 2011

• December (open date)~Reading with Santa Project~ Senior members will go over to Shadow Oaks and Horn Lake Elementary with Santa to read a good book and pass out candy canes to the little ones.
• Grocery Bag Project~Members will serve at a local grocery store by bagging groceries for the community of Horn Lake (showing thanks to the local businesses).
• Fundraiser Project for the month: open
• Good deed of the month: Desoto County Christmas Crusade~ we have partnered with HLHS Beta Club to adopt twenty families in need and supply them with coats, shoes, presents, and warm Christmas meals. If you would like to support us please contact HLHS!

March 2012

• March 31st-HLHS Student Council will participate in a clean up effort of our local park in honor of the beginning of Spring. From 9am to 1 pm we will be at Latimer Park in Horn Lake~ come on out and help out!

April 2012

• April 14th-We will be assisting the Desoto County Animal Shelter in Nesbit, MS. We will be there from 9am to 1pm cleaning and feeding the animals and also helping the staff in any way we can :)
• We will be hosting fundraiser nights at two local restaurants in Horn Lake, MS to help benefit our Senior Week at school. All proceeds will be used to sponsor the week long activities we have planned in recognition of the graduating class of 2012~Go Eagles!!

May 2012

• Student Council is hosting Prom 2012~ this year prom will be held on May 5th at the Minglewood Hall on Madison Ave., Memphis, TN (mid-town) from 7:00-11:00. Tickets are $55.00/per person and the them is Red Carpet Masquerade.
