The completion of the Lake Cormorant Middle campus in 2006 marked the beginning of a three-part school complex to serve western DeSoto County and relieve overcrowding in Horn Lake and Hernando school zones.  It was one of many new schools opened in DeSoto County for the 2006-2007 school year in response to large county-wide population growth.

During its first year open, Lake Cormorant Middle School served grades 5-8 under the leadership of Rhonda Guice.  Following the completion of Lake Cormorant Elementary, the sixth grade was housed with grades K-5 at the new elementary campus.  Each consecutive year, Lake Cormorant Middle/High school opened additional grades until 2010 with the completion of the Lake Cormorant High School campus.  Lake Cormorant will have its first graduating class in May 2011.

Today, Lake Cormorant Middle serves grades 6, 7, & 8 under the leadership of Jeff Morgan and Stacey Pirtle.
