Question: With the children doing different games, the teachers feel spread thin trying to get to every child to answer questions and explain. They feel like the directions are not very clear. Is there a master list of games and directions or an easier way that you can suggest?
Answer: This is always challenging at the beginning...so many games! (Perhaps a blessing or a curse?) When a student's first page pulls up, (the one with the start button), to the left is an "Instructions" button. This will pull up a two page .pdf file which will provide more advanced instructions. It will even have a screen shot. It is not unusual to run across a game you have not seen before and have to log out with ALT-F4 and go pull up the instructions. The pdf is really helpful.
Question: Is there any way to look at a child's progress for his/her MAP target class?
Answer: YES. If you double-click the MAP class icon, you will see the Reading and Math MAP Assignment. In front of that assignment, is a "+" sign. If you click the "+", it will open and you can see the child's progress. This shows the average of their work. If you need more detail, click on the blue "customize" link to the right of the child's name. That will show the units currently being worked on. Click the "+" again, and it will show you the progress on each piece of the unit.
Question: When a Kindergarten or 1st Grade student pulls up his/her MAP target class, there isn't a mini-lesson before the activity. Is there supposed to be one?
Answer: Many of the units at the K-1 grade levels are called skillbuilders. Skillbuilder units do not have the typical unit structure. The students are primarily working on prerequisite or basic skills. At first grade, however, you should start to see some regular units that do contain the regular unit structure. When opening up the Customize link mentioned above, you can tell where the skillbuilders and regular units are located in the MAP sequences.
Question: If a teacher logs in and pulls up their target, are they seeing the path for their MAP class average?
Answer: The pathway for each student can be viewed by clicking the blue "customize" link.
IF YOU ARE REFERRING TO OPENING THE CLASS AND THEN DOING THE "+", THEN THE SCORE YOU ARE SEEING IS THE QUIZ AVERAGE FOR REGULAR UNITS OR THE AVERAGE OF THE SKILLBUILDER ACTIVITIES IF IT IS KINDERGARTEN. IF TEACHERS WANT MORE DETAIL IN REPORT FORM, YOU WOULD DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. CLICK ON REPORTS IN THE BLUE NAVIGATION BAR.
2. CLICK ON THE BLUE ASSIGNMENTS RESULTS LINK (FIRST REPORT ON THE PAGE.)
3. YOU CAN EITHER CHOOSE DATE RANGE, LAST WEEK, OR ANOTHER OPTION. THERE IS A GOTCHA. CHOOSING NINE WEEKS IS NOT THE SAME NINE WEEKS YOU HAVE UNLESS YOU ARE INCREDIBLY LUCKY! THOSE DATES WERE PRESET BY THE COMPANY. BEST TO CHOOSE DATE RANGE OR LAST WEEK.
4. ALWAYS ASK FOR COLOR AND DETAIL. IT MIGHT NOT PRINT IN COLOR, BUT
YOU ARE GOING TO LOOK AT IT IN COLOR! YOU ALSO NEED TO GIVE THE REPORT A NAME.
5. YOU CAN THEN EITHER CHOOSE TO SCHEDULE IT TO RUN AND BE EMAILED TO YOU, OR YOU CAN CLICK ON "NEXT" TO GET THE DATA RIGHT AWAY.
6. YOU WOULD THEN NEED TO SCROLL DOWN TO EITHER JUST BEFORE THE MISSISSIPPI SEQUENCES OR JUST AFTER TO FIND THE MAP FOR PRIMARY OR THE MS NWEA MAP.
YOU CAN ONLY CLICK ONE AT A TIME. THEN CLICK NEXT.
7. THEN DO THE FILTERS BY CLICK THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL, THE NAME IN THE LIST, AND THE MAP CLASS, AND CLICK GENERATE.
8. IF NOTHING HAPPENS, YOU HAVE A POP UP BLOCKER OCCURRING. YOU WOULD NEED TO ALLOW CLASSWORKS THROUGH THE BLOCKER AND THEN DO THE STEPS ABOVE AGAIN. IF NOT CAUGHT BY A POP UP BLOCKER, THEY WILL SEE THE REPORT GENERATE, THEN RENDER, THEN SHOW UP.
THIS REPORT WILL BE 1 PAGE PER STUDENT AND SHOW EXACTLY WHAT THE
STUDENTS HAVE BEEN DOING ON EVERYTHING, HOW MUCH TIME THEY'VE SPENT, ETC.
