WALLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
SCHOOL-LEVEL PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY
I. General Requirements
A. Schools must develop jointly with, and distribute to, parents ofparticipating children a written policy describing the implementation
of the requirements. This policy shall be updated periodically to meet the changing needs of parents and the school.
B. If a school has a parent involvement policy that applies to all parents, then the school will only have to amend the policy, if necessary, to meet Title I parental involvement requirements.
C. If the local educational agency has a school district-level parental
involvement policy that applies to all parents, then the LEA will only have to amend the policy, if necessary, to meet Title I parental involvement requirements.
D. If parents are not satisfied with the contents of the LEA’s plan and the school wide program plan, then the LEA must submit parent comments on each plan.
II. Written Policy
Policy involvement for each school served:A. shall hold an annual meeting for all parents to inform them of their school’s participation and to explain its requirements and their right to be involved.
All parents will be invited to an annual meeting at the school to explain the program and activities provided through Title I Federal guidelines and the role of all parents in the education of their children. Parental input will also be solicited concerning the means by which the school and parents can form a partnership to achieve the program’s objectives. A Spanish translator will be provided to assist LEP parents in becoming full partners in their child’s education.

Parent conference times will be available before and after school to assist parents in coordinating conferences with their work schedule. Informational meetings for parents shall be offered during a.m. hours and p.m. hours to afford parents the opportunity to attend.
These meetings will be promoted through personal letters, telephone calls, news media, flyers, etc. Refreshments, door prizes, and attendance awards may be used as incentives. Efforts shall be made to inform all parents of participating children.shall involve parents, in an organized, ongoing and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the parental involvement program and the joint development of the school-wide program plan. If a school already has such a process, use that with adequate representation of Title I parents.
The parental involvement plan will be disseminated and reviewed by parents at parent meetings and family events to provide input into the development of parental policies. The school-wide program will be available for parent review at all parent meetings and family events. Program Development Team members will request input from parents at monthly PTO meetings and through the use of an annual Parent Questionnaire. Parent recommendations shall be processed in a timely manner. The program development team will address all suggestions and concerns each year when revising and approving the school-wide program.
D. shall provide parents with timely information about programsas well as allowing time for school staff to respond to parents’ recommendation.
The school shall provide program information to parents by way of:
- Printed Notices (English/Spanish)
- Calendar of Events
- Telephone Calls
- Brochures
- Flyers (English/Spanish)
- News Releases, etc.
E. shall provide school performance profiles that show school
progress toward meeting the state’s challenging performance standards and provide individual student results and interpretation of results to parents. Spanish translators will be provided as needed during conferences to discuss individual results.Each school shall disseminate assessment data in some of the following ways:
- School-Parent PTO Meetings
- Send home results by students
- Individual parent-teacher conferences
- Mail results to home
- Small group meetings
- Grade-level meetings
F. shall explain curriculum, the forms of assessment, and
proficiency levels that students are expected to meet.
An annual Open House meeting shall be held at the beginning of the school year in all grades to acquaint parents with curriculum, classroom standards, expectations to meet standards, homework policy, assessment, and proficiency levels that students are expected to achieve.
G. shall provide opportunities for regular meetings through PTO
to formulate suggestions, share experiences with other
parents, and participate as appropriate in decisions relating to
the education of their children.
III. School-Parent Compact
Each compact shall describe the school’s responsibility to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the children served under this part to meet the state’s student performance standards, and the ways in which each parent will be responsible for supporting their children’s learning, such as monitoring attendance, homework completion, and television watching; volunteering in their child’s classroom; and participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children and positive use of extracurricular.
School’s Role:
The school has the responsibility to teach all children and to include parents in reinforcing and enhancing the high quality of curriculum and instruction to meet the state’s students’ performance standards in the following ways:
- Provide a curriculum in compliance with state and district requirements.
- Provide a highly qualified staff.
- Provide opportunities for students to be actively involved in the learning process.
- Provide an environment that promotes positive communication.
- Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their child’s education.
- Train parents to assist and monitor homework assignments.
Parent’s Role:
The parent has the responsibility for being involved in their child’s education in the following ways:
- Be responsible for their child’s attendance and punctuality.
- Supply their child with appropriate supplies.
- Support class and school discipline policies.
- Plan a time and place for homework and review it regularly.
- Actively encourage their child’s learning.
Student’s Role:
The student has the responsibility for their own education in the following ways:
- Attend class regularly.
- Work hard and do their best.
- Complete and return homework assignments.
- Maintain regular study habits.
- Bring appropriate supplies to school.
- Respect and cooperate with classmates and adults.
- Listen and participate in class.
- Support and abide by all school rules of conduct.
