Foundation for Excellence in Education Grant Program Awards Grants to DeSoto County Teachers

     The DeSoto Economic Council’s Foundation for Excellence in Education Grant Program awarded 117 classroom teacher grants to DeSoto County teachers.

     The grant program crossed the $1 million mark four years ago, providing classroom grants to DeSoto County teachers since 1989. 

     “We are on to our next million now,” said Susan Fernandez who coordinates the non-profit program for the Council.

Eleven State Farm Insurance agents in DeSoto County donated $4,100 to the DeSoto County Foundation for Excellence in Education Teacher Grant program.  From left, Will Patton, Neal Cannon, Romaro Miller, Phil Sugg, Bert West, Ryan England, Barry Bouchillon, Stephanie Strohm, and Sam Lauderdale.  Not pictured were Garnett West and Bill Gorman.

     Funded by donors such as United Way, State Farm, Chick-fil-A, Krewe of Hernando, City of Walls, Entergy, Atmos Energy, Baptist Hospital-DeSoto, Grainger, along with other industries, businesses, and individuals, the organization raised $51,251.61 for teachers in DeSoto County.  DeSoto Hills Baptist Church provided the DeSoto Economic Council the use of their facility for the teacher grant awards program.
