INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE OR THREATENING MESSAGES:
Restrictions against Inappropriate Language apply to public messages (teacher-student, student- teacher), private messages, and material posted on Web pages.
1. Students will not use obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, inflammatory, threatening, or disrespectful language.
2. Students will not post information that could cause damage or a danger of disruption.
3. Students will not engage in personal attacks, including prejudicial or discriminatory attacks.
4. Students will not harass another person. Harassment is persistently acting in a manner that distresses or annoys another person. If a student is told by a person to stop sending the messages, they must stop.
5. Students will not personally attack an employee of DeSoto County Schools, another student of DeSoto County Schools, or staff of DeSoto County Schools. DeSoto County Schools has the right to investigate fully and to the greatest extent any instance of harrassment by the use of the DeSoto County Schools website, e-mail services, etc.
Due Process
The school and/or district will cooperate fully with local, state, or federal officials in any investigation related to any illegal activities conducted through the school system.
The principal has the authority to actively investigate any and all violent threats of a sensitive nature towards an employee, staff, or student of DeSoto County Schools. In the case of threatening e-mails, DeSoto County Schools will file an informal report detailing the date, time, ip address, teacher name, teacher e-mail, area/host name information, computer information, and any other information that is required by law enforcement to actively investigate the communication.
In the event that a question arises about the validity of an electronic communication between student/teacher/employee, the principal reserves the right to question the student with law enforcement present. DeSoto County Schools will keep a pro-active stance on school safety by pursuing any and all leads in this direction.
DeSoto County Schools has the right to place reasonable restrictions on the material accessed or posted through the system. Students are expected to follow the rules set forth in the Student Code of Conduct and the law in the use of the Internet and network resources.
USE OF COMMUNICATION SERVICES
The DeSoto County School District Web Site may contain bulletin board services, chat areas, news groups, forums, communities, personal web pages, calendars, and/or other message or communication facilities designed to enable you to communicate with the public at large or with a group (collectively, "Communication Services"), you agree to use the Communication Services only to post, send and receive messages and material that are proper and related to the particular Communication Service. By way of example, and not as a limitation, you agree that when using a Communication Service, you will not:
Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others.
Publish, post, upload, distribute or disseminate any inappropriate, profane, defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent or unlawful topic, name, material or information.
Upload files that contain software or other material protected by intellectual property laws (or by rights of privacy of publicity) unless you own or control the rights thereto or have received all necessary consents.

Conduct or forward surveys, contests, pyramid schemes or chain letters.
Download any file posted by another user of a Communication Service that you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally distributed in such manner.
Falsify or delete any author attributions, legal or other proper notices or proprietary designations or labels of the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded.
Restrict or inhibit any other user from using and enjoying the Communication Services.
Violate any code of conduct or other guidelines which may be applicable for any particular
Communication Service.
Harvest or otherwise collect information about others, including e-mail addresses, without their consent.
Violate any applicable laws or regulations.
DeSoto County School District has no obligation to monitor the Communication Services. However, DeSoto County School District reserves the right to review materials posted to a Communication Service and to remove any materials in its sole discretion. DeSoto County School District reserves the right to terminate your access to any or all of the Communication Services at any time without notice for any reason whatsoever.
DeSoto County School District reserves the right at all times to disclose any information as necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request, or to edit, refuse to post or to remove any information or materials, in whole or in part, in DeSoto County School District's sole discretion.
Always use caution when giving out any personally identifying information about yourself or your children in any Communication Service. DeSoto County School District does not control or endorse the content, messages or information found in any Communication Service and, therefore, DeSoto County School District specifically disclaims any liability with regard to the Communication Services and any actions resulting from your participation in any Communication Service.
